Summer’s Best Bikinis

West Coast Fashion Editor :

What better way to shake off the winter funk then to have a look at all the cute swimwear this season has to offer?

For those who prefer a single piece, check out our One Piece Perfection article. But why limit yourself to just one style when there are so many sweet two-pieces this season. Here’s our SLH rundown on the best of 2018 we’ve found.

Flattering Florals – The Flower Power train shows no sign of slowing down, and is blooming its way into swimwear. And why not? What’s not to love about sporting these lovely florals around in the sand? With so many variations with this print this season, you’re sure to find your fav. Go pretty in pink and get your gurl on, or try some of the tropical or darker bloom designs with backgrounds in emerald and black.

High Waisted – If you’ve been loving the high-waisted jean phenom, we have good news! Like Floral, this look has made its way to the beach. Petite or Pear? This style was made for you. Shorter in the torso? You may prefer to pass on this one.

String – Some people find these daunting, but the String Bikini is amazingly comfortable. Because the strings can be adjusted every time you put it on, it’s always a perfect fit to who you are right now. Lost a few pounds? Pull them in a little tighter. Stomach feeling a little fuller today? Modify as necessary.

Active – Usually the words “bikini” and “active” don’t tend to fall in the same sentence. Enter Athleisure wear. These chlorine-resistant versions of your favorite workout wear will have you sporting this look from poolside to the beach. So show off that body you’ve been working on with pride (and comfort).

Bandeau – There is a myth about Bandeau tops that they are not “suitable” for voluptuous figures. Oh really? We say “just watch us”. Yes, there are no straps, so this style is not the best for a Baywatch-style run in the sun. But if you’re looking for a laid back day at the beach or poolside, there is no reason not to rock this look. Regardless of your breast size, the trick to a great bandeau top is snug and supportive. Take a test drive in your top before heading out by doing a quick touch-the-toes and back up again. A good fitting bandeau should keep everything in place. If you have a ‘pop out’, its probably too tight. If it slides – too loose. Still feeling hesitant? Go for a Bralette version of the Bandeau. Look for the option of ordering one in the same size as your current bra and viola!

Color Block – When it’s done right, color blocking can be a woman’s best friend. By using brighter colors in certain areas, it can help enhance your already amazing body and showcase the areas you like. There’s no shortage of color options this season, but we are seeing two major groups forming – sorbet-pastels and retro-80s neon. Whatever your taste, these pieces will serve you well for many seasons to come.

60’s Retro Prints – It started at the Spring show with Balenciaga and Marni. Prints you probably think came off of someone’s tablecloth. But 60’s prints in swimsuit form give it a newfound sexiness. The look is unexpected and refreshing in a way that will definitely make you stand out among the crowd.
