Staying Cool During the Dog Days

Baby, it’s hot outside! Summer 2022 is turning out to be quite the sizzle-fest, and when the weather sizzles it can be hard to keep your fashion cool.

So if your next party, activity or event is happening in the great outdoors, you’re going to need some top notch outfits that are made to beat the heat. Naturally, we’ve got you covered…

CREAM OF THE CROP

When the temps are rising, no one wants to be swimming in sweat. Crop tops are a great option to keep you looking good and feeling cool. Just remember to keep up with the sunscreen application and relish the joy of showing some skin. Here are five great options we’re over the moon for…

Staring with this sexy number. We start with Windsor’s crochet top in cool toffee and match it with Elie Tahari’s fun and flirty maxi skirt (which also happens to be made from linen, a go-to material for hot days). We give our look a little cheeky fun with Zenni’s baby blue heart shaped glasses and kick things up a notch with Chloe’s sky high espadrilles…looking haute, not hot!

Silk is a fantastic material when the weather gets hot. Not only is it light but it feels great against your skin. This cropped handkerchief top from Rue21 is so pretty, you’ll want to wear even if it’s not scorching outside. Pair it with some equally cool Knockaround Mile High aviators in a peachy gold. NYDJ’s flex white denim shorts will ensure smooth movement and finally, some fun colorful beads from Baublebar, and you’ve got an outfit too cool to stay indoors with.

WHO WEARS SHORT-SHORTS?

That would be us, when the last thing we want to deal with is sticky legs. So how short is short? Well, that’s a personal choice these days however generally speaking a “shorty short” is anything will a 5″ or less inseam. One thing is for sure when you’re wearing this option, you’re guaranteed legs for days.

These 4″ inseam white shorts from Joes Jeans definitely fit the category of shorty-shorts. We paired them with Boston Proper’s sweet pink off-the-shoulder top that flutters with every move. Mansur Graviel’s Bombato heel is equally sorbet-sweet and finally for good measure, some happy hoops from AuRate in 14k white gold.

Like silk, satin is a breathable fabric that feels super comfy on the skin. This hot pink pair from Lulus is the easy silhouette you desire on a hot day. We paired it with Boston Proper’s bright white mock halter top and adidas platform sneakers from their new Nizza collection. Especially when they come in the form of a flowy, one-and-done dress that’s made to keep you moving carefree in the heat. They’re also extremely versatile and can be dressed up or down with a few quick changes of the accessories.

Starting with this floating beauty. Got a summer wedding you’re not looking forward to because the invite calls for the great outdoors? Does it seem counter-intuitive to don a jumpsuit in the heat? Only if you’re not considering your option of the latest season of loungewear jumpsuits. These easy fit wonders are super roomy with plenty of space to keep that air circulating and fabric from sticking.

Starting with this wide-legged wonder from American Rag. Standing still, it looks like a maxi but once you’re in motion the front split legs give you welcome coolness in every step. We’re also loving the boho stripes which inspired us to pair it with Hobo Bags fringe crossbody with it’s fun, decorative guitar strap. Speaking of guitars, we couldn’t pass up Krewe’s new season Beau shades, which were inspired by cajun musician Beau Jocque. A little burst of citrus sun on your neck is courtesy of Kendra Scott and M. Gemi’s thong sandals in metallic sky blue round things out nicely.

Runway chic, in this heat? We say absolutely, when you slip on this satin tube top jumpsuit from Rue21. Keep things carefree and colorful with a complementarily colored athletic bra. This one from Vuori is in one of their new season colors – Grapefruit. Puma’s classic suede low tops get an update in fresh foam green and speaking of hot and new for the season, slide on a pair of Knockaround’s new arrivals. They took one of their best selling frame styles, Paso Robles, and gave it a colorful kick called Bunkhouse. And of course, we add a little bling with these earrings from TOUS, featuring the brand’s adorable little bears, filled with a rainbow of tiny precious stones.
