From Sand to Street – 7 New Ways to Wear Your Cover-up

dresses

That favorite flowy beach cover up of yours? It is so much more than a pool side pull over. No really! With just a few well thought out accessories, you can easily take your beach side friend other places besides the water.

Want to see what we mean? Okay you got it. Here are some great ideas and inspiration for you from our SLH editors. We took the seven most common types of beach/pool cover ups and gave them new life and a whole new look. Why not give these a try…

Trina Turk, Sintra Blue Floral Cover Up $152

Okay so we start with the Tunic. Very much standard fare when it comes to beach/pool cover ups. This chic and flowy dolman sleeved cover up by Trina Turk is a prime example of a multi-tasking wardrobe piece just waiting to happen. We styled it with a smooth pair of white Bermuda shorts, some amazing accessories and now meet your new go-to friend for your weekend getaway look.

Souvenir, Drawstring Silk Caftan $115.99

Few items are as easy-casual as a cool caftan. If you have one in your beach wardrobe (or if you’re eyeing our choice) there’s no reason this flowy fellow can’t pull double duty when you’re hosting a fun, social distance get together with family and friends. Try this season’s platform heel to give elevation to your look. Then you can get a little loopy with gold chains…pretty much the runaway favorite this season. And last but def not least, let’s talk transparency. Oftentimes the fabrics (such as our chosen one) can be a hair too sheer for most post-pool activities. Such an easy fix though, we just added an opaque slip dress underneath.

The Bikini Lab, Tropical Oasis Cover-up Romper $27.73

Moving on…let’s talk Rompers. Rompers make for great cover-ups, but why stop there? If you’re heading out for errand running or a casual, outdoor lunch with friends, your beach romper will do the trick with just a few adjustments. If your romper sports a coverall style front (as our example does) add a white fitted crop T-shirt, some not-too-serious accessories and voila, you’re good to go!

Boston Proper, Pearl-Embellished Duster $179.50

So often we forget that adorable little duster we throw on at the beach can be so much more versatile in our wardrobe. Channel your inner music fest gal and sport this piece as the finishing touch to an otherwise (yawn….) expected daytime look. Take in this season’s love of tie dye, pull on a pair of jean shorts and then go outside the box with something unexpected, like these crazy-but-we-love-em Jelly shoes by Adidas.

Platypus Australia, Ruffle Sundress $15.99

If you spend a lot of time at the beach or pool, you’ve probably got at least one Sundress in your cover-up wardrobe. Why? Well, it’s easy to put on, looks great and it’s comfortable. So how about considering a spruce up and wearing it at your next casual cocktails get-together? We elevated our version with just a few choice accessories, like a cork heel, some awesome specs, and added in one of this season’s biggest trends in handbags – fabulous fringe.

Elan, Convertible Halter Cover-Up Dress $14.98

Like the Sundress, the Halter is another popular choice. Most likely you’ve never thought of it as a potential date night dress option. No? Have a look at what luxe items we added to turn our option from beachside fun to date night flirty.

Angie, Smocked Printed Maxi Dress $29.97

Last in “common cover ups”, we have the Maxi dress. There are so many variations. Ours has the typical spaghetti straps and a fun bohemian print. It’s a great option for going to and from your water activities. Maybe though, you hadn’t considered it’s also perfect as an outfit for when the summer weather gets a little cooler? Or if you know you’re going to be dealing with a lot of in-and-out between air conditioning and outside? Adding a jacket offers the additional solution of keeping goose bumps at bay indoors, then stripped off when you hit the outside.
