Apres Ski Fashion: 20 Outfits to Give Your Winter a Lift

First, let’s start with the basics – apres ski (or après-ski if you want to be precise) means “after ski” and covers a variety of social activities post time on the slopes. It could be sitting by the fire, sipping tasty beverages, hitting up a cozy bar to listen to live music, or even unofficial shindigs in woodsy locations with friends while still on the mountain.  The main takeaway is a celebration where the coolest outfits are casual, decidedly unfussy and made for the cold.

The apres ski look has currently gained a cult following the likes of which it hasn’t seen since the 80s. Even among the non-mountainous urbanites, the spirit of the slopes has turned into one of the biggest trends to hit the season.

Sound like a trend you could slide into? From top to bottom and accessories in-between, we’ve got twenty outfits that are must haves to nail the apres ski look…

Let’s start with the classic combination – namely, some neutrals. This roll neck ski jumper from Perfect Moment’s 2021 season looks amazing when paired with some slim fitting khaki-colored Goldbergh pants, Andrew Marc’s shiny/matte puffer, a pair of sophisticated, olive sunnies from Knockaround and rag & bone’s exaggerated Chelsea boot from their new winter collection.

Leather leggings (or faux in this case) plus a thigh-grazing, comfy cowl sweater are a great combination. All that’s left is to slide on some bold-browed “Grand Brandy” sunglasses from Blenders and you’re ready to sip some warm elixir by the fire.

For the fun loving mountain momma, here’s a playful take. We start with winter weight, gray leggings and slide on Smartwool’s Smartloft mini skirt. This outfit starts with a classic cable knit in a fresh, mauve-y-mulberry color. Lucky you, not only did we land you that treasure, we’ve given you a full outfit to go with it, including some pants of equal puffery, courtesy of Backcountry. A frothy, striped sweater from Stella Nova and Blender’s Iron Lilly glasses in vibrant sunset bring the color factor, and last but not least, finish with a fleece vest from Columbia over top to get that layered look.

Blue looks good on you, baby! Especially when it’s this colorful cutie from New Day. With such a cool fair isle mood, we’ve kept the rest of the down below straightforward with black bodycon scuba pants and Senso’s sherpa-lined Chelseas. Up top, we go for complementary colored elements, including a lovely amber scarf from Milly and gorgeous tortoise frames from Blenders.

Channel your inner 80s snow girl with this cool retro outfit. The deep purple, racer stripe turtleneck from Milly goes perfectly with Tipsy Elves’ Alpine Explorer jacket. Some black leggings from Helmut Lang keep the silhouette sleek. Loving the apres ski look but not necessarily the price tag? Here’s an inexpensive outfit that hits all the right notes at an attractive price point. Starting with this amazing find from Aeropostale in the form of a fuzzy fun fleece pullover with a print that gives off that cool, lodge-y vibe. A chocolate brown bodysuit from Lulus goes great with some faux-suede leggings and some cool gray hiking booties from M. Gemi. And talk about a bargain, these super glam sunglasses from Blenders called Americano are pure luxe drip at half the cost you’d expect for them.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t include an outfit with one of this season’s biggest trends – the Shacket. Feeling a little less Aspen and a bit more Jackson Hole? Well who doesn’t like to channel a more lowkey vibe? This ski town area is known for being fashionable but not fussy. With this in mind, we go for a cute but casual pair of vintage denim overalls, courtesy of Boyish Jeans. And what says more than ‘apres ski’ but Kier + J’s very own cashmere sweater in bubble gum pink. Add Blenders’ Sugar Mac shades, Puma’s uber-fuzzy beanie and then go old school with Backcountry’s tri-colored puffy coat and the one and only yellow boot from Timberland.

Here’s another great option that channels a little western with your apres ski look. We start with a gorgeous fringed jacket from The Kooples and add Smartwool’s super warming wool sweater. A RE/DONE pair of vintage 90’s Levi’s are just the right cut to show off your Madison western boots, with the cutest little gold star ever. While we’ve been focusing on mostly pants, there is always room for cute dresses in the apres ski look. Case in point, this quilted number from Smartwool which looks sleek and chic while insulating. For those who don’t shy away from pattern play, this outfit is a feast of proper mixing procedure. Our last look is pure luxe. While still maintaining the apres ski outfit mindset, this look takes everything to next level through the use of luxury fabrics and furs (faux that is). The cornerstone of the look is this magnificent, off-the-shoulder, faux fur top, which looks extra luxe when paired with Joe Jeans’ iridescent-coated high rise pants. High top Moon Boots with just a little faux fur fringe tie everything in nicely. This leaves us to have some extra fun, adding Blenders’ beautiful turquoise and tortoise shell glasses, along with Eugenia Kim’s oversized wool cap that’s just begging for a pop on the head, followed by a little cock to the side.
