A Summer Full of Sole – Footwear That Goes from Pool to Party

Hitting the sand or just going poolside, the right pair of sandals can make the difference between blisters and bliss.

Here at SLH we’ve been busy diving into all the cute and cool looks for your 2021 tootsies. But these aren’t just a bunch of pretty faces…they came in tops for having the ability to go the distance at the beach, but still fashionable if you find yourself going straight from sunny time to party time.

Simply put, the slide was the official shoe of the pandemic, and is still going strong in 2023. With so many designers giving their take on this humble comfort piece of footwear, finding fashionable versions these days is pretty easy. Still, finding a pair that stands up to the rigors of water, sand and fashion? Here are five that we fell for head over heels…

adidas, Adilette Comfort Slide $35

Classic swim slides upgraded with chic tortoiseshell. The contoured footbed of EVA foam delivers cushy comfort with every step.

Moschino, Embossed Logo Pool Slides $100

Craving a little logo? These sleek slides by Moschino deliver in clean monochromatic black and white.

Oofos, Ooahh Slide Sandal $59.95

Sculpturally pleasing, these waterproof slides are designed with recovery tech, so not only do they look good, they reduces joint stress and offer excellent arch support.

Stella McCartney x adidas, McCartney Slides $70

This cute-as-hell collab is super on trend with its touch of utilitarian made future-forward in crisp edgy white.

Alo Yoga, Cloud It Slide $108

Looking for something that will infuse some streetwear into your look? Waterproof nylon and bio-made rubber with just a touch of puffy.

Let’s face it, heels and sand are not friends. And TBH with so little surface area on the heel, we’re not too keen on wearing them around potentially slippery poolsides either. So what’s a gal to do when she wants a little height? Enter the flatform, my friend. With the same amount of footbed real estate as your trusty flats but with an increased depth of sole, the flatform gives the illusion of height without the reality of heel-teetering shoe malfunctions.

Reef, Cushion Sole Hi $70

Super grippy foam sole and fast-drying vegan leather get together to create this summertime staple of a shoe.

Palladium Boots, Revolt Sandal in Rose Smoke $90

Made for keeping you comfortable all day long, these pretty-in-pink show off utility with a seriously sweet side.

Sorel, Cameron Flatform Sandal $130

Don’t let the sight of this heel scare you. Sorel is well-known for making hiking and snow boots, and they’ve included that tech on the bottom of these sandals to ensure you feel balanced with every step you take.

adidas x Marimekko, Aqualette Ocean Flatforms $55

Finnish brand Marimekko has been a champion of cheerful since 1965, so it’s no wonder they know how to rock a bold pattern. This limited edition slide is a collab with adidas and will keep you smiling with every step.

Perhaps no other shoe screams summer like a flip flop. The quintessential thong + foam bottom is a staple piece at the beach. If that’s your only plan for the day, most of the standard versions will work for you. However if you’re multi-tasking your events and looking for something a bit more upscale, these five beauties should do you very well…

adidas, Comfort Flip-Flops $35

Not only are these fully waterproof, but they are also quick drying to boot. Sleek and classic in lovely lavender, you’ll have to think hard about reasons not to wear them!

Havaianas, Flash Urban Flip Flops $30

Just a little bit of metallic elevates this sweetly neutral shoe to party ready in no time flat.

Astral, Rosa Flip-flop $75

Here’s a great two-in-one. With a construction that boasts Astral’s proprietary G-Rubber in the outsole and in key areas of the footbed, these sandals are designed to deliver plush comfort and surefooted grip over slick surfaces all day long. But if you’re looking for something a little less ‘flop’, the removable strap can be added and presto, you now have a proper sandal.

adidas, Core Black Grey Five Flip-flops $30

Sporty but sleek, these gray and black flip-flops are ruggedly durable so they will continue to look fresh for years to come.

Flat, comfy sandals haven’t been this popular in decades.

Reef, Water Vista $60

Talk about trompe-l’œil! The jute-like ropey carvings on this totally waterproof  EVA sandals are so well done they look like the real thing.

Birkenstock, Arizona Limited Edition EVA $45

All the arch comfort the brand is known for, made in waterproof EVA and in sophisticated green…why don’t you already have this pair?

adidas, Adilette Black on Black $28 (on Sale NOW from $40)

These super comfy, beach-friendly sandals from adidas may very well become your new go-to not just for pool and parties but everything in between.

This back-in-the-spotlight trend is definitely a polarizing one. Dubbed as “ugly shoes” by some, the humble clog runs the gamut from the normcore Dansko work shoes to the fun loving Croc. If you love them, you already know they are showing up in just about every runway this season. And while the wood-soled version would definitely be a poor choice for beachwear, designers are working their fashion magic to create water-friendly versions that are also party worthy.

adidas, Adilette Stripe Clogs $35 (on Sale from $50)

Completely waterproof  and therefore ideal for your day in the sun, these clogs are amazingly versatile and will easily replace your chunky sneaks.

Dansko, Kane Vintage Tropical EVA Clog $80

The ideal companion to your bright colored outfits.
