Flower Power – Spring Dresses Coming Up Floral

-West Coast Fashion Editor:

Spring 2018 is turning up the flower power in big and beautiful ways. Here at SLH our editors have been eyeing with anticipation for the 5 latest spring trends in florals.

60’s Florals

These are the mother-of-all flower power prints and they are back in a big, big way. What makes a 60’s print? First, the colors tilt more towards sunset tones (think burnt orange, harvest yellows, avocado greens) with occasional splashes of dark fuchsia, rich pinks and persimmon reds all competing against a background of creamy whites. This pattern can get pretty busy, so our best recommendation is to keep your accessories streamlined, in a complementing color, so as not to overwhelm the palate.

Soft Floral Prints

Take one part bright or soft shades and add a dash of breezy floating materials and you’ve got this year’s soft floral prints. Chiffon, silk and all airy fabrics in between make up this look, while deep necklines, sexy cutouts and long leg splits keep this romantic dream from getting too sugary.

Mash Up Florals

For those who live boldly, this season’s mash up takes mixed bouquets of springtime prints and pieces them back together again, often in sharp angles and patchwork patterns that somehow – amazingly – create a creature much more than the sum of its parts. With so much going on, keep your jewelry bold and your accessories simple.

Micro Florals

Nothing brings out our inner Anne of Green Gables like this season’s micro floral patterns. These sweet and petite pastel blooms are the perfect complement to semi-sheer and sheer fabrics. To keep the look from getting too costumey, play against type and wear it with chunky, earthy jewelry or go the other direction and add a tough moto jacket or bold, punchy booties.

Tropical Florals

Okay, so one could argue this one leans more print than floral, but for anyone who has seen this season’s collections of hibiscus and plumeria, tropical is really upping its game this season. What’s nice about this trend is that if bright or pastel isn’t your thing, this style is just as full of dark, earthy palm and Monstera leaves against rich brown or black backgrounds.
