Winter chill may still be going strong but we’re already dreaming of glorious spring and “open-toe” season! Our editors show you ten winter items that will seamlessly transition to your spring wardrobe.
Sure there are some items, like your full-length arctic puffer coat, that deserve a happy retirement as the weather turns warmer. But there are also some great items that are perfect for helping you bridge the gap between winter boots and pool sandals. Ready to see our list?
#10 – The Business Vest
Business vests of all make & materials have been a huge trend for F/W 22-23. Under a blazer with suit trousers, over button downs and leather pants, even paired over turtlenecks with wide leg jeans. But as the weather begins to warm don’t feel like you have to relegate them to the back of your closet. A well-made tailored vest, like this fitted one from Equipment (shown below) will look great under a crisp white tee plus midi dress for spring, and even better as its own top when paired with this summer’s pleated shorts.
Equipment, Anita Vest $225
#9 – The Updated Loafer
While we’re speaking of F/W’s popular “borrowed from the boys” trends, let’s chat about the luggy loafer. As part of our collective fashion obsession of all things 90s, the humble loafer got a huge refresh in the form of some serious chunky soles. While the over-the-top exaggerated versions are showing some signs of waning, the more practical (yet still hardy) loafers are sailing into spring without skipping a beat. So as the weather gets warmer, feel free to swap out the winter socks for some no-show varieties. Pair them with your fav cropped pants for spring, and for summer channel your Cher Horowitz with a loafer+mini skirt combination. This classic black/gray version from M. Gemi is exactly what you need.
M. Gemi, The Elsa $298
#8 – Zodiac Jewelry
Intentional jewelry has been blowing up the past few years, but really seemed to hit its peak this F/W. That is, “seemed to” because monogram and zodiac jewelry are showing absolutely no sign of slowing down. So if you think you’ve missed the trend, be confident in wearing these beauties all spring and summer long. Looking for an addition to your collection? We’ve got two, both from Zoe Lev! Their large signet ring in sterling silver is big enough to showcase three characters (so first, middle and last name) and their 14k solid yellow gold Zodiac necklace gives you three different font options (from Gothic to Block) and five different lengths to make it even more bespoke for you.

#7 – Leather Shorts
Yes, leather shorts have been around for some time now. And while we’ve naturally been sporting them in F/W with cute, patterned stockings and chunky sweaters, don’t feel like you need to pack them away come warmer times. In fact, we encourage you to add to your collection and go bold. This hot pink version by Manokhi will be a welcome addition to any summer barbiecore ensemble.
Manokhi, Jett Leather Shorts $728
#6 – Winter Cardigan
One of the best transition pieces from winter to spring is the cardigan. Your favorite snuggly sweater that you’ve been layering over long sleeved shirts for added warmth becomes that perfect piece you’ll reach for when you’re moving over to your flirty floral dresses and skirts. We all know no matter how warm it may be during the season there are going to be times when you need a little layer (even if it’s just to combat the over zealous AC we come across in movie theaters, malls and restaurants). This neutral cardigan from Equipment is made of sumptuous cashmere, which is lightweight and breathable when you’re warm but insulating when things get chilly.
Equipment, Elder Cashmere Cardigan $280

#5 – The Tweed Blazer
Tweedy jackets and boyfriend blazers are a winter mainstay, but have you considered how adorable they can look with your spring looks? Take this plaid-patterned tweed blazer from Lulus. As fitting as it is with all your current long sleeved shirts and knits, it will look just as darling paired with a slip dress and sandals for spring and a tee, frayed hem jean shorts and sneaks.
Lulus, Posh Personality Pink Tweed Blazer $74
#4 – The Knit Dress
Knit dresses obviously are amazing for cooler weather. This sweater dress from Diane von Furstenburg is a perfect example. While it’s chilly out, this would pair well with a turtleneck underneath, stockings and boots. But when spring time hits? We’d wear it as a sleeveless sheath dress with some fun flatform sneakers (maybe even a lightweight bomber jacket if needed).
Diane von Furstenburg, Mylo Mini Sweater Dress $398
#3 – The Red Coat
Winter 22-23 was the year of the red coat. Now you may be thinking that we are into spring, it’s all about pastels, right? Nope! Fiery red is in fact one of the trending colors for spring 2023. So while you may not be able to wear your puffer, you should definitely consider a red trench. Burberry’s short, gabardine trench will serve you stylishly from rainy cold spring with your pants and knits, to warmer days with your floral dresses and open-toed booties.
Burberry, Gabardine Trench $1,332.99
(on Sale NOW from $2,524)
#2 – The Cargo Pant
Yes, the cargo was probably the biggest aughtie-revival street wear trend to hit this winter, and as you can probably guess by now, they are still trending hard. Taking these pants into spring is a pretty easy swap out from the heavy combat boots and chunky sweaters you’ve most likely been wearing with them, and replacing them with retro band tees and fancy flats (ballet flats are super trending right now).
Windsor, Major Cutie Cargo Joggers $46.90
#1 – The Western Boot
Finally we come to the top of our list, and we are happy to report that Cowgirl Summer will continue all the way into S/S 23. The flashy, metallic versions that had us mesmerized at holiday parties are seeing less action as we move into the warmer months. Instead neutral suedes and pastel leathers are turning our heads, as we gleefully pair them with everything from midi to mini skirts and cropped pants to jean shorts. Like this smooth operator from M. Gemi, called The Rita. To this lovely lady, we say – Howdy Partner!
M. Gemi, The Rita $448
