2022 Fall Must Have Handbags

Back by popular demand, our annual handbag article for your Fall must-haves is here! The 2022 season has been a visual feast of return favorites and interesting new trends.

Our editors have been all over to bring you their 25 must have, cool trending favorites from daytime to night, work to weekends.

The Kooples, Nano Red Emily Bag $275

Frame bags have returned in a big way this season. The timeless silhouette of this ladylike structured bag really resonates with our post-pandemic desire for a re-embracing of the classics. This juicy red bag from The Kooples is giving us major French girl vibes.

Mansur Gavriel, Cloud Clutch $695

Blame it on all the loungewear but slouchy clutches are languidly finding their way across forearms everywhere this season. Look for solid colors in supple leathers and skip the previous season’s love of sparkly lamé. Mansur Gavriel’s cult-inducing Cloud Clutch shows off the style beautifully.

Dooney & Bourke, Western Crescent Hobo $216 (on Sale NOW from $288)

Another example of a classic style that has made its way back into our graces. This season’s take on the humble Hobo focuses on rich colors with a hint of Y2k slouch. This dark beauty from Dooney & Bourke gives us a splash of another big seasonal trend: western-inspired looks and accessories. Medium sized, it works perfectly as your new go-to work bag.

adidas, Modern Utility 3-Way Bag $63

Who doesn’t love the Utility trend? These bags are packed to the brim with everything a gal could want. This sleek version from adidas is a superb example. Super versatile, it can be worn as a sling bag, a shopper bag or a backpack. And pockets, pockets, pockets! Did we mention pockets?

Bottega Veneta, Rome Intrecciato Leather Satchel $1,619.99 (on Sale NOW from $3,240)

Our love of all-things-woven is still going strong into fall. Case in point, this gorgeous wine-colored Bottega Veneta bag is flying off the shelves. We managed to find it on sale, in very limited supply, so if you’ve been waiting to find your investment piece of the season…here it is.

Elie Tahari, Large Knot Leather Tote $448

For those times when you just can’t figure out what to take and what to leave. Yes, the mammoth tote phenom seems to be here to stay. This season we’re staying away from the awkward materials and returning to creature-of-comfort fabrics. This splendid slouchy large tote from Elie Tahari looks comfy enough to use as a pillow…and at that size, it practically could be.

Windsor, Queen Of Hearts Velvet Ring Clutch $26.90

This season we’re taking the phrase “have a heart” to, well…to heart. Small, adorable heart-shaped bags aren’t just for February anymore. Fashionistas are breaking them out big time for fall. This evening clutch in black velvet from Windsor has our attention, and not just for the amazing price. It comes with a small shoulder chain (making it a great little crossbody), but our favorite is the blingy top ring that lets you carry it in confidence to your event.

The Lavender Lemon, Sexy Beast $95

Talk about getting artsy – these season has designers coquettishly courting with all sorts of graffiti, pop art and modified prints. Some are completely abstracted forms while others, like The Lavender Lemon’s tote above, are playful versions of familiar patterns.

Lulus, Marbled Marvel Acrylic Hard Case Clutch $58

It’s a Barbie world, and we’re all just living in it. But seriously, the movie has yet to come out, but all things Barbiecore pink are crazy-trending right now. This totally cute new version from Lulus reminds us of a giant Starburst candy with all our favorite flavors swirled together. So much yum.

Jil Sander, Off-White Leather Pouch $950

Not your average purse top. Designers this season are turning the humble top handle hardware into this season’s show off. This off-white version from Jil Sander’s new season playfully pushes the top knob proportions and turns it into it’s own work of art.

Stella McCartney, Small Frayme FFF Bag $2,230

It’s the return of the furry friends! Whether it’s fuzzy, fleecy or furry, textures to cuddy up to are definitely staying in the Fall 2022 rotation. This fuzzy fellow from Stella McCartney is decidedly faux, but will still give you all that tactile hygge feel you crave.

Ninas, Olivia Silver Mesh $66

Like a knight in shining armor, silvery mesh always turns heads as it enters the room. This double-ring handled pouch bag by Ninas is big enough to hold the essentials for your evening out, but still small and sleek enough to keep you moving freely all night long.

CalPak, Hue Duffle Bag $156

The silhouette is familiar, but the luxed-up materials make a big distinction in this season’s non-workout version of the duffle bag. Still all the great pockets and room to stuff everything you need for the day…just a little more office friendly.

Maison Margiela, Gray Glam Slam Bag $2,170

Puffy perfection. Like someone took their fav down-comforter duvet and turned it into a purse. This white-hot number from Maison Margiela can be carried as a clutch or worn over-the-shoulder.

Lulus, Blue and Beige Fringe Tote Bag $38.40

That’s right, if you thought you’d missed out on the S/S fringe trend…fear not. Those kinetically cute moving fabric pieces aren’t going anywhere. Whether you rock it with a western flavor or straight up Boho, your fringe benefits will continue well into F/W for 2022.

J. McLaughlin, Ariana Suede Bucket Bag $298

Bucket bags are back, baby! This season’s incarnations are staying a bit more streamlined and minimal, like this mossy forest green fellow from J. McLaughlin.

Marc Jacobs, The Colorblock Snapshot $325

More than any other season since, designers and fashion lovers have been obsessed with elongated straps. If you include yourself in this “camp” you’ll very much appreciate this camera bag-inspired cutie from Marc Jacobs. Just the right amount of utility that still manages to look chic.

CWC, Santa Fe Tapestry Bag $99.95

If there is one big take-away for the 2022 fall bag season, it’s texture, texture, texture. That includes all kinds of fun with woven patterns, like this roomy shoulder bag with sturdy leather sides and bottom support.

Karl Lagerfeld Paris, Agyness Boucle Bag $248

Yup, more texture please! Tweedy and boucle fabrics are rotating their way into many a fall look. This ravishing shoulder bag from Karl Lagerfeld will lend a good punch of color to your neutral fall grays.

Balenciaga, New Season Logo Print Purse $2,450

A better way to embrace your love of all things retro denim…instead of attempting to rock that Spears-Timberlake Canadian tuxedo look.

Lemaire,  New Season Croissant Shoulder Bag $1,165

Half-moon shaped shoulder bags were showing up in fall shows from Chanel to Versace. The slouchy, carefree silhouette seems to have grabbed our back-to-business attentions and so far as we know, hasn’t let go. From Lemaire’s 2022 fall collection, this buff-colored beauty is a delicious example of the trend.

rag & bone, Hayden Mini Sling $295

The edgier, far more practical cousin of the fanny pack is becoming the no-brainer go-to for students and city commuters everywhere this season. And why not? With its roomier size, ergonomic fit and easy on & off, what’s not to love? You could grab a canvas version and be on your way, but the freshest versions for this season are in richer materials such as high quality leathers and suedes. This one from rag & bone gets next level marks for style and will continue to only look better as it ages.

Gucci, Ophidia GG Supreme Mini Bag $1,050

Logomania is BACK!…sort of…Let us explain. 2022 has seen a steady rise in nostalgia-driven love of older, established brands, especially in Y2K-inspired silhouettes. This under-the-armpit, Gucci monogram “double-G” vintage logo bag is once again being sought after by celebs and fashion lovers alike.

Hobo Bags, The Mila Clutch $238

There’s something satisfying about a top snap purse, and this season in particular influencers seem to be embracing that motto. Our favored interpretation of it includes an equally satisfying top handle, like this midnight blue beauty.

M. Gemi, The Anna $145

And rounding out our top twenty-five bags, we couldn’t leave the list without the phone bag. As the name implies, these tiny totes are made to fit your phone and nary anything else. While the micro-handbag trend of last year are slowly ramping down in popularity, the practical (yes, we did say that) phone bag is continuing to enjoy it’s place along the hands and hips of out-and-about’ers everywhere. Why practical? Elementary my dear Watson…unlike so many of those mini and micro handbags before, the phone bag actually fits your phone.
